PAHT-CF from Bambu Lab is a high-performance 3D printing filament designed for engineering and industrial applications. It is a composite material combining a PA12 (nylon) base with carbon fibre reinforcement.
By merging the low moisture-absorption attributes of PA12 with the stiffness and strength of carbon fibre, PAHT-CF offers mechanical and thermal properties well above standard filaments.

Key Features

  • Low Moisture Absorption: The PA12 base gives the filament significantly lower water absorption compared to typical PA-CF filaments — making it more dimensionally stable in humid or wet environments. For example, a saturated water absorption rate of ~0.88 % is cited vs ~1.7 % for standard PA-CF.
  • Exceptional Mechanical Properties & Layer Adhesion: Thanks to carbon fibre reinforcement and optimized formulation, the filament offers high tensile strength, good bending modulus and strength, and stronger Z-layer bonding (the bond between print layers) than comparable materials.
  • High Thermal Resistance: The material delivers a high heat deflection temperature (HDT) — for example ~194 °C under 0.45 MPa load. That means parts printed from this material can withstand elevated temperatures without deforming.
  • Reusable High-Temperature Spool: The filament comes on a spool rated for high temperature, reducing risk of spool deformation during drying/pre-print prep, and it supports the brand’s reuse ethos.
  • RFID & AMS Support: For models of Bambu Lab’s ecosystem that support AMS (Automatic Material System), parameters are embedded via RFID so the printer can automatically load correct settings.

Technical Specifications

  • Filament diameter: 1.75 mm ± 0.03 mm.
  • Roll Weight: 1.02kg
  • Density: ~1.06 g/cm³.
  • Vicat softening temperature: ~220 °C.
  • Heat deflection temperature (HDT): approx. 194 °C at 0.45 MPa.
  • Mechanical properties example (dry state): Tensile strength: ~92 ± 7 MPa. - Breaking elongation: ~8.4 ± 1.8 %. - Bending modulus: ~4230 ± 210 MPa. - Bending strength: ~125 ± 7 MPa. Saturated water absorption rate: ~0.88 % (25 °C, 55 % RH) for PAHT-CF vs ~1.70 % for typical PA-CF.

Recommended Printing & Handling Guidelines

  • Drying: Before printing, the filament should be thoroughly dried (e.g., ~80 °C for 8–12 hours) to reduce moisture content. Moisture can degrade print quality and mechanical performance.
  • Nozzle / Hotend: Use a hardened steel nozzle (recommended 0.6 mm) owing to the carbon fibre content (which is abrasive). Stainless steel nozzles are not recommended. A 0.2 mm nozzle is also not recommended.
  • Printing conditions: Nozzle temperature recommended in the ~260-290 °C range; bed temperature ~80-100 °C. Print speed should be moderate (e.g., <100 mm/s) to maintain quality.
  • Printer environment: Because of high thermal requirements and potential warping, printing inside an enclosure is strongly recommended. Open-frame printers (without enclosure) are considered unsuitable.
  • Build plate & adhesion: Compatible build surfaces include textured or smooth PEI plates; “Cool Plate” (low-temp) is not recommended. Use of a glue stick may help for adhesion.
  • Storage: Keep filament sealed, with desiccant, humidity <20% RH is recommended when not printing. Because of the hygroscopic nature of nylon composites, moisture uptake will degrade properties.

Typical Applications

Thanks to its strength, stiffness, heat resistance, and resistance to moisture, PAHT-CF is well suited for:

  • Functional prototypes / engineering parts
  • Machining fixtures, jigs
  • Low-volume production parts
  • Injection moulds or moulding tooling
  • Situations where the printed part may see moisture, humidity, heat, or mechanical loading

Limitations & Considerations

  • Because of the carbon fibre content, the filament is abrasive; you must use a hardened steel nozzle or equivalent to avoid rapid nozzle wear.
  • Moisture uptake is still a risk (though reduced vs typical PA-CF); proper storage and drying are vital.
  • Warping and print challenges are more likely than with standard PLA/PETG; emphasis on enclosed build chamber, proper adhesion, and bed temperature is needed.
  • Print speed should be conservative compared to standard materials; going too fast may reduce mechanical performance or quality.
  • The cost is higher than standard filaments; intended for demanding applications rather than general hobby use.

In short, the Bambu Lab PAHT-CF filament is a premium, carbon-fibre reinforced nylon composite engineered for technical 3D printing tasks. If you need parts that are dimensionally stable in humid environments, can handle elevated temperatures, and require strong mechanical properties (tension, bending, impact), this filament represents a strong choice. On the other hand, it demands more from your printer setup (enclosure, hardened nozzle, drying/storage discipline) than typical hobby filaments.

  • Returns Policy
  • Return of merchandise (RMA) and Warranty

We want you to be happy with the purchase you have made from us. If you are not completely satisfied, you may return the product to us and we will either refund, credit, repair/replace it, subject to the below terms and conditions.

You can return purchases for a refund (excl shipping). Please notify us within 7 days and ensure item is ready maximum 10 days after delivery date.

Please ensure to log your return request within 7 days of receipt of your item. Please ensure to select the correct reason for return:

    - Changed my mind / Item exchange

    - Faulty on arrival

    - Incorrect item received

All items are covered by a 12 month warranty (unless otherwise stated) which will be honoured directly by GeeWiz. All products will either be replaced/repaired/refunded depending on stock availability. Products will require evaluation by GeeWiz before a warranty claim can be accepted.

Should the item being returned for assessment be found to be in good working order, unfortunately, there will be a collection fee that will apply.

The collection fees are as follows:

    - For returns on items that were sent with free shipping: R198

    - For returns that had a surcharge, the same surcharge will apply for collection.

Please log your return on your account, under the returns manager.

We do not reimburse your fee to ship to us, but we will pay for return shipping if the item is subject to replacement. If the item you wish to return was ordered incorrectly / is no longer required / you have changed your mind, there is a collection fee that will be charged (please refer to the above) and this will be deducted from the refund amount once the supplier has credited us. Please note GeeWiz will only cover return shipping of a faulty unit within 6 months of purchase, after which, a shipping fee (starting from R198) will be applicable to you for the return of the unit.
